The wooden panel had a large chip in it prior to beginning the painting. Rather than tossing it out, I wanted to find a way to preserve the wood and use its flaws to inspire the piece created. I used super heavy body acrylic paint to fill the crevasse and created a unique textured frame made entirely of paint. Mushrooms are the bridge between life and death which I can relate to as an artist because I am constantly looking for old, worn out, forgotten about items and materials that I can breathe new life into. Nature is my biggest inspiration and I love all kinds of bugs and critters which is why I chose to paint a beetle for this one.
